Growing Instructions:

Desert willow seed germination can be improved by soaking the seeds in water a few hours prior to sowing. Sow seeds no deeper than ¼ inch deep in flats or nursery pots. Keep the soil relatively moist. Germination takes 1 to 3 weeks.


Desert willow seeds can also be sown directly in the ground in the spring after frost. Sow seeds no deeper than ¼ inch deep. Keep the soil relatively moist. Germination takes 1 to 3 weeks.

Bird of Paradise, Caesalpinia gilliesii, is a beautiful flowering tree/shrub that thrives in the desert sun and is drought tolerant. Caesalpinia gilliesii has fern-like leaves and is beloved for it's exotic flowers that attract hummingbirds.


Not to be confused with similarly named Mexican Bird of Paradise bush or the Yellow Mexican Bird of Paradise tree.


This plant is frost hardy in zones 7 and above and can grow 8-10 feet tall with similar spread.

Germination Instructions

-Sow in all purpose soil, 1/4 inch deep

-Keep soil moist, expect germination in 2 - 3 weeks

-Water regularly until tree is established

-Seedlings will need protection from full sun but mature trees thrive in full sun and require it to grow profuse blooms
